Rabindranath Tagore

FLY Free APU

This website celebrates the short but remarkable life of Upamanyu Mallik and honours the legacy he leaves behind. A visitor to this planet for just 28 earth years, Upamanyu left us with his overwhelming love and indestructible energy. By serving as a repository of our memories and what he meant to us, we hope this site will become a healing space for all those left behind. Further by highlighting the work of The Upamanyu Mallik Initiatives (TUMI) we advocate that grief and loss need not be debilitating and can indeed be converted into legacies for change and social action. It is our belief that through TUMI Upamanyu lives on.

MoU with Pro Sport Development

On 16 March , 2023 an MoU was signed by The Upmanyu Mallik Initiatives represented by Upamanyu’s mother Sumona DasGupta and the Founder Director of Pro Sport Development Suheil Farrell Tandon in New Delhi. Targeting a particularly vulnerable community – the street connected children - the partnership envisions working with the community based cricket programme in Bhubaneshwar to open up conversations on gender , child rights, leadership and team building even as the girls and boys enjoy the sport that Upamanyu loved. The collaboration will make the Upamanyu Mallik Cricket tournament an annual event and will continue to bring a cohort of young players to Delhi for exposure visits to boost their confidence and enhance their skills on and off the field.

MoU with K9 Healers Foundation

On 14 April 2023 an MoU was signed between Adnaan Khan Founder and Trustee of K9 Healers Foundation and Sumona DasGupta mother of Upamanyu Mallik representing The Upamanyu Mallik Initiatives. Little Lulu was the witness to the agreement and kept her paws firmly on the table as the MoU was signed at 1 West Avenue, IIT Delhi where Upamanyu last lived. The partnership envisions a rehabilitation centre for dogs named after Upamanyu which will be the pivotal point for the Rescue Dog to Super Dog Programme. Adnaan and Upamanyu shared a vision towards rehabilitating homeless dogs and helping them find a purpose and the rehabilitation home will not only be named after Upamanyu but will as Adnaan expressed also inculcate his values of compassion and sensitivity as integral values of the K9 Healers Foundation. The partnership will also provide some support to the project of working with dogs and children in conflict with the law.

The Upamanyu Mallik Cricket Tournament

36 children from under privileged families thoroughly enjoyed playing Upamanyu’s favourite sport on 20 August 2023 when they participated in the Upamanyu Mallik Cricket Tournament. This is now envisioned as an annual event to be followed by a participatory workshop where the children of the community cricket project will discuss their experiences on the field while playing cricket and the implications and life lessons they learnt on leadership, motivation, team spirit , gender equity that have a resonance beyond the field. The aim is to build a cohort of young ambassadors who play cricket and acquire life skills along the way.

Upamanyu Mallik K9 Healers Home

We are delighted to announce that the Upamanyu Mallik K9 Healers Home will soon be under construction in the new premises of K9 school India, Kanganheri. It has been designed by our friend Sankalp Sahu Founder of 02 June studios with Upamanyu's college friend and batchmate Abhishek Salkar as the consulting civil engineer. For both Sankalp and Abhishek it has been a sheer labour of love and we have no words to express how grateful we are for their time, patience and dedication.
